What is a custom domain?
By default, everything you send homeowners and vendors is served from app.homewatchiq.com. With a custom domain, one domain of your own — for example app.yourcompany.com — covers all of it: assessment reports, proposals, documents, the homeowner portal, and the vendor portal. Visitors see your brand in the browser address bar, not HomewatchIQ’s.
Step-by-step setup
- Go to Settings → White Label Branding → Custom Domain
- Enter your subdomain — e.g.
app.yourcompany.com - Click Save Domain
- Add a CNAME record at your domain registrar (see below)
- Wait for DNS to propagate (usually a few minutes, occasionally up to 48 hours)
- Return to the dashboard and click Verify Domain
- Once verified, reports, proposals, documents, and both portals will all load from your domain
The CNAME record to add
| Type | Name | Value | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| CNAME | app (or your chosen subdomain) | clients.homewatchiq.com | 3600 |
Which subdomain should I use?
Always use a subdomain, not your bare root domain. Good options:
app.yourcompany.comportal.yourcompany.comreports.yourcompany.comhome.yourcompany.com
How long does setup take?
DNS propagation is usually quick — often just a few minutes — but can occasionally take up to 48 hours depending on your registrar. Once your CNAME is verified, SSL is issued automatically as part of the same step. After that, everything loads from your domain right away.
What about existing links?
Links generated before your custom domain was verified will continue to use the original app.homewatchiq.com URL and will keep working. New links generated after verification will use your custom domain.
